Are you a professional photographer who has perhaps given posed newborn photography a go and not had much success? Or perhaps you are an enthusiastic amateur who is looking to take up newborn photography professionally. One of my training days might be just what you are looking for…..
Do you want to know the top tips and tricks for getting sleepy, posable babies and how to carry out each pose safely? Perhaps you would like help with lighting for newborns or editing images sensitively and naturally? I can also offer insights into marketing a newborn photography business in the UK, business planning and well, basically if I know it I am happy to share it! My training days have been described as “The perfect first step on the ladder” and I have helped many photographers get their photography businesses off the ground, not only through boosting confidence in posing but also by offering genuine honest business advice on what works and what doesn’t in my own experience!
There is a strong emphasis on safety at all training sessions and I am passionate about raising standards in newborn photography as far as baby safety is concerned. I now have a SiB (stand in baby training tool) available too in addition to a newborn at each training session. Meaning you get great, safe hands on practice as much as you need on the day- a fantastic addition to the course.
I have been specialising in newborns for over 7 years now, and have photographed in excess of 600 babies. In addition, I come from a teaching/training background and since 2011 I have trained just over 140 professional photographers from all over the world, in the safe posing and photographing of newborns. I also have a degree in Business & Marketing so often include that in training if required.
My training sessions are tailored to meet the needs of the attendees and ongoing support is provided through an online community forum just for Pennycress trainees. The cost for a space on a 1:3 workshop day is £350. The fee includes a light lunch, snacks and drinks throughout. The full fee is payable at time of booking to secure your space and spaces are offered on a first come first served basis.
Please send an enquiry for the next available dates. August and September dates have now sold out.
Sorry I do not offer training to those working within 40 miles of NR18. Sessions are held at my studio in Wymondham, Norfolk and travel and accommodation details will be shared at time of booking.

Some testimonials from trainees:
” I did training with Vicki in October 2011, I had been a photographer for a number of years and had just moved my business from Singapore. On my return to the UK I did a few newborn shoots and decided that this was the area in which I wanted to specialize. I did a 1:1 with Vicki and it was absolutely superb, I learnt so much, all the things I learnt would have taken me years to work out for myself.
Doing the workshop gave me the confidence and knowledge to safely pose newborn babies. In 2012 I went back for another group workshop this time using props and again I found the day invaluable. I think it ought to be obligatory for anyone wishing to work with newborns to do a training workshop. If you are contemplating doing training and are unsure how much you can really learn, contemplate no more and just book, you’ll realize like me that it is the best investment I have made in my newborn photography journey so far, apart from my camera 🙂
In 2013 I was fortunate enough to have the opportunity to do a US workshop with the renowned Keri Meyers. Although there is always something you learn from any form of training it did enforce for me that Vicki had indeed given me a great start in an industry and genre that I love. I am now running a busy Photography Studio in Essex, where I specialise in Maternity, Newborn and children up to one. Every year is better than the last year and having started my business in the middle of one of the worst recessions in history that’s no mean feat.
Thank you Vicki for the role that you have played in that journey, the ongoing support that you have given me along the way and for all the lovely people that I have met.” xx Sally Slack – Newborn and Children’s Specialist Photography
“My training day with Vicki was so helpful, especially as a complete beginner. She was so calm and thorough, she’s a great teacher and was happy to answer endless questions. Highly recommend her for newborn training!” Katie Spicer
” I trained with Vicki in December 2012. I’d made the decision that I wanted to specialise in newborn & baby photography & wanted to learn how to handle & pose babies safely. On the day Vicki was very friendly & was willing to share her extensive knowledge of newborn photography. No question was too silly & Vicki explained things in a very easy to understand way. One of things I have enjoyed greatly about training with Vicki is the ongoing support I have received. Being part of the Pennycress Facebook group means that I can get help/advice & critique from both Vicki & the other ‘Pennycressers’. I would highly recommend that if you are thinking of moving into newborn photography that you book a course with Vicki. I think it was money very well spent & I saw an immediate improvement in my work following the course.” Libby Edwards
“I am proud to say I received newborn baby photography training with Vicki in September 2013. I was very nervous as I felt out of my comfort zone but Vicki soon put me at ease and the training day was enjoyable and I learned so much. It was a great opportunity to see how Newborn babies are posed safely and with such patience! Following the training I left my full time job to embark in a new career as a photographer specialising in Newborn Baby Photography. I fully recommend Vicki’s training to anyone considering photographing newborn babies, she is excellent!” Mandy Jackson
